This page sets out, from the Manor's side, the four entrances that share a root with Queen's Butler. One corporate body runs them all, at one address in Aomi.

One road

The butler who bows before the door has a road that brought him here.

The bow a butler gives as he receives a lady was not learnt inside the Manor alone. It is the bow of someone who was taught the angle at the school in Aomi, was tested on it in the Association's practical examination, and has repeated the same bow at the entrances of homes and companies. The person who has put that way of thinking into words and made it public is Butler Bell, who leads the Association.

The four entrances differ only in the part they play

An entrance for learning, one for being recognised, one for being served, one for hearing it spoken. Each is introduced here, with the way through to its official site. Whichever you enter by, the butler you reach is the same.

One corporate body, and one address in Aomi

The four doorways look like separate ventures, yet the operating body is one and the address is the same, in Aomi. A few hours spent at the Manor, a life with a butler beyond the Manor, the road to learning the butler's profession, and time spent reading how a butler thinks. Only the door changes, according to the involvement a lady wishes for.

Why the Manor sets out, so carefully, undertakings that are not its own

Why does the Manor set out other ventures with such care? For one reason. The meaning of the time spent being served by a butler at the Manor deepens only when you know where that butler learnt, who recognised him, where he works day to day and what he believes.

Each introduction is written in the words of the Manor

None of the introduction pages copies the official text of the site it introduces; each writes only what can be seen from the Manor's side, in the Manor's words. The details of fact are gathered on the official websites, so reading the two side by side is the surest way to read.

Weekend in-person classes, a classroom of six, textbooks the Association itself supervises. The way a Manor butler walks with a tray held level is a form practised over and over at this school. From Essential up to Master, the three courses form a staircase in which each higher course contains those below, with skill being tested in practice at the end.

Three grades of certification, a confidentiality contract, and screening on both sides. The Association takes responsibility for showing which grade a Manor butler has attained. The parent body, founded in 1890 and incorporated in 2025 after one division and reunification, is also the operator of the Manor itself.

Where

Inside the Manor, at your home or company, or at the school? Picture the place where you wish to be involved with a butler. Once the place is decided, the doorway is almost decided: at the Manor it is the butler salon, the studio or the apprentice experience; at home or the company it is THE BUTLER; at the school it is the Academy.

For how long

The few hours you have booked, or a life by the month or in residence? Should you want to carry on with a butler first encountered at the Manor, there is also the Buddy contract path.

Each page sets out the outline of the venture, its relation to the Manor, and separates what the Manor is able to say from what only the official website can tell you. Moving information such as fees and availability is not written at the Manor but left to the official websites, so please read in two stages.

Manor reservations go to Queen's Butler; everything else to the respective official website. What is currently open is kept up to date on the official websites.

Same hands

Whichever doorway you take, the hands that choose the tea are the same.

The hands of the butler who, before the Manor's cabinet, chooses the tea leaves while asking a lady's preference. Those hands were taught how to hold the tin at the Academy, were tested in the Association's practical examination, and have repeated the same movement in a family's kitchen. Whichever of the four doorways you enter, what you finally touch are these same hands.

Why the Manor does not keep the others at a distance

That is why the Manor does not keep the other ventures at a distance but sets them out as related sites. When you wish to know the reason behind conduct that felt comfortable at the Manor, when you wish to invite a butler beyond the Manor, or when you wish to try standing on the butler's side yourself, we hope this overview becomes the next door.

Four official sites speak of the same butler in different words

The four official websites each speak of the same butler in different words: the Association in the words of standards, THE BUTLER in the words of contracts, the Academy in the words of learning, Butler Bell in his own words. The Manor speaks in none of these but in the words of the one who is served. Being able to look at the same butler from five angles is the worth of this overview.

QAre the four ventures separate companies?

No. All are run by the Japan Butler Association, with the same representative and the same address. The doorways are divided only by where the butler stands and how the service is delivered. It is not unusual for a butler you met at the Manor to be listed on THE BUTLER's roster or to teach at the Academy.

QHow do I choose between the Manor and THE BUTLER?
A

To spend a few hours as mistress of the Manor, go to the Manor's butler salon. To bring a butler into your home or company, go to THE BUTLER. Should you want to keep the same butler afterwards, the Buddy contract page is where to start.

QCan I apply to the Academy at the Manor?
A

Not at the Manor. Please go to the Japan Butler Academy's official website for a brochure request and a consultation, both free of charge. Booking the apprentice experience, though, is done at the Manor.

QWhat is on Butler Bell's official site?
A

Who he is and what he believes, practical wisdom on manners and hospitality, where he is lecturing, and where he has appeared on screen and in print, all written by himself.

QWhat can I ask the Association directly?
A

Anything to do with certification, membership or corporate seminars. It receives visitors daily, by appointment alone, at a desk separate from the Manor's bookings.

QAre there both male and female butlers at the Manor?
A

Both are in residence. We hear your preference of butler when you book, though availability may mean it cannot always be met. THE BUTLER's roster also lets you compare male and female butlers, so you may confirm the fit at the Manor first and then go beyond it.
