Why a butler is always at your side is the reasoning behind our promise that the Queen's Butler Manor is never let out unattended, whichever in-house service you choose. We do not hand over keys, a butler receives you on arrival and departure, and you are never left alone in the Manor. The Salon is for women only; male companions cannot join, even as an escort.
The Manor's hours begin because someone is there to open the door
A Manor with a butler in residence is not a space you collect a key for and use. It is a place where the work of welcoming, attending, preparing, waiting and seeing you off continues throughout. Because the butler stands inside the door, there is someone to bow when you arrive, someone to take your luggage, and someone to prepare the next room.
In the Salon, the Studio and the Apprentice Butler Experience alike, a butler is always in residence. We have both male and female butlers, and we assign the day's attendant according to your purpose, your party size and who is available. In-house services accommodate up to six guests.
The butler does not always join the conversation. When you open a book alone, when a shoot proceeds quietly, or when you are absorbed in a meeting, the butler withdraws to the anteroom or beyond the door, staying within reach of your call. Should you go out with your butler, the Manor is locked and left empty before we accompany you.

Being attended by a butler does not mean the butler always stands before you. Checking the lighting before you arrive, adjusting the chairs, laying out the silver or the attire that will be needed, and standing in the gallery at the moment the door is to open: it is this preparation that lets you step into the Manor without hesitation.
During your visit, the butler reads the tone of the conversation, the progress of the shoot or the pauses in a meeting, and judges whether to draw near or step back. Sometimes we arrange your belongings before you ask; sometimes we wait without a word until the silver bell rings.
As you leave, we bring your coat and belongings together, check for anything left behind, and see you to the door. It is this thread from the first bow to the last, carried by the butler, that unattended use can never offer.
Your Queen's Butler attends to five moments from arrival to departure
Preparing before you arrive
Your Queen's Butler confirms the booking, party size, rooms to be used and any attire or props for a shoot, then sets the lighting and furnishings.
Welcoming you at the door
The butler opens the door with a bow, confirms your name, and takes your coat and belongings.
Showing you through the Manor
We lead you to the rooms suited to the day's purpose and explain how the furnishings are handled and how to call for us.
Keeping the right distance
Whether to stay at your side or withdraw to the anteroom is decided according to your wishes and the moment.
Guarding the door and the furnishings
Inside the Manor we watch over arrivals and departures, the furnishings, anything left behind and your signal to call. When you go out with your butler, the Manor is locked before we accompany you.
What the butler's presence includes
- Checking the rooms, lighting and furnishings before you arrive
- Welcoming you at the entrance door and seeing you off on departure
- Taking your coat and belongings and checking for anything left behind
- Guiding you through the rooms and furnishings suited to your service
- Responding to your call from your side or from the anteroom
What we do not offer at the Manor
- Handing over the keys to the Manor
- Any use that leaves you alone in the Manor
- Ordinary in-house use for more than six guests. Late-night stays are for one guest only
- Meals. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink
- Occupying the Manor for purposes other than those set out in the terms of use
When you wish for quiet, the butler chooses the distance
To wait in attendance is not to leave you alone; it is to stay within reach when needed while never intruding on your time. Reading, writing letters, conversation with someone close, and preparing before a shoot each call for a different kind of quiet.
At the outset, the butler explains how to call. Where a silver bell is set out, the bell is your signal; where things proceed in another room, a word will do. When you feel more at ease with us nearby, we stay close; when you would rather not be watched, we withdraw beyond the door.
We have both male and female butlers in residence, so please let us know any preference when you book. We will confirm which butlers are available on the day and propose an arrangement that protects both your privacy and your safety.

QCan I hire the Manor on its own, without a butler?
We do not offer this. For all in-house services a butler is in residence, opening and closing doors, caring for the furnishings and attending to your requests.

For the furnishings and the unexpected alike, the butler is your point of contact
The Manor holds furniture, lighting, silver and porcelain that have lived through long years. With a butler present, we can distinguish what may be touched, what is best admired for its provenance, and what may be moved for the day's purpose, and explain the order of handling to those touching them for the first time.
A delayed train, a change in how you feel, an alteration to the shooting schedule: for anything unforeseen at the time of booking, the butler is your point of contact. We set out on the spot what can be done and tell you how it affects the finishing time or what follows. Knowing exactly whom to turn to is part of the reassurance a resident butler provides.
When you move between rooms, the butler checks the door and the floor ahead of you, and where silver or porcelain is used, explains the order in which to lend a hand. Preserving the provenance of the furnishings while making them approachable for first-time guests is the resident butler's role.
About late-night stays
