About A Space with a Butler Present
A space with a butler present means that, whatever the use of Queen's Butler The Studio, one butler of the Queen's Butler Association, which runs the Studio, remains in the room throughout.

Pouring tea, setting down a plate, opening a door, offering a bouquet. The butler's white-gloved hands capture, in a photograph of the Manor, a moment of being waited upon. The white gloves are not a prop: they keep fingerprints from silver and porcelain and make plain the position of the hands as an object is passed — part of the work itself.
During a shoot, the butler arranges the light and the props, appears as hands only at the moment required, and withdraws again. Too close to the lens, the hands overwhelm the subject; too far, and the meaning of the service is lost. The butler finds the point at which your gaze, the sleeve of the costume and the silver on the table fall into a single line, and holds still at the photographer's cue.
In a meeting, the butler opens the door for arrivals, places cups where they will not disturb the papers, and withdraws to a position in the room that does not interrupt the conversation. As a butler of the Queen's Butler Association, the butler does not take on whatever is asked, but judges the bounds within which the dignity of the Manor and of those present can be kept.

Reception means preparing the room before the door opens
Reception is not simply a matter of confirming a name; it is the quiet act of taking in the purpose of the visit and the day's programme. The butler bows before the door, takes coats and luggage, and briefly tells first-time visitors which parts of the Manor call for care.
For a meeting, the butler confirms the seating with the host who arrives first; for a green room, separates the places for costumes and luggage; for a shoot, keeps a passage clear for equipment. Knowing who arrives when allows even the moment of opening the door and the moment of bringing tea to be arranged.
Women and men alike serve as butlers, and receive the Manor and its visitors by the same standard. If you have a preference, we ask at booking; on the day, the butler in charge remains in the same space until you leave. On rainy days, umbrellas and wet coats are taken near the door and dried before costumes and equipment are carried inside.
Shoot support means stepping forward only at the moment required, never in the way of the subject

Confirm the subject
We ask what you most wish to show: a person, a costume, a product or the furnishings.
Clear the background
Chairs and small objects are arranged, and cables and luggage moved out of the frame and the passage.
Check the light
With the photographer, the butler confirms how the light of the chandelier, fireplace, candelabra and photographic lamps reaches the subject. Settings and operation of lighting equipment remain with the photographer.
Add a gesture
One movement the story needs is added: opening a door, pouring tea, offering a bouquet.
Step out of frame
In any composition without the butler, the butler withdraws at once and watches over the shoot, not touching the furnishings until the cue to move to the next scene.
What you may ask of the butler

- Tea service, handling of cups and glasses, and setting of the table.
- Placing chairs and props, shoot support to protect the furnishings, and appearing as white-gloved hands.
- Seating and projection set-up for meetings, the clothes rail in the green room, and attendance at load-in and restoration.
- Chauffeured pick-up for up to six people (return journeys to five points; offered with the plan; availability confirmed at booking).
What you provide yourselves
- Photographing as the photographer, retouching, video editing, or operating audio or streaming equipment.
- Hair and make-up, costume making, or writing product descriptions or presenter scripts.
- Meals.
- Letting the Manor unattended, handing over keys, or appearances of face or full figure without prior agreement.

At Queen's Butler, you are attended by butlers of the Queen's Butler Association. Both men and women serve as butlers. If you have a preference, please let us know when booking.
QCan I hire the space more cheaply without a butler?
No. We never let the Manor unattended. The butler's presence is included in the rate.
QCan the butler stay out of the shot?
Yes. On request, the butler stands out of frame, stepping to your side only to move the furnishings or change scene, and withdrawing quietly once shooting begins.
QCan I request a man or a woman as butler?
Both men and women serve as butlers. If you have a preference, please tell us at booking. If the butler is to appear in the shoot, we also confirm in advance how much is needed: white-gloved hands, a view from behind, or the face.
QCan the butler present products or act as host?
Reception and guidance are undertaken. Appearing as host or compère is discussed separately, after the script and role have been confirmed in advance.
QAs a first-time user, will I know when to ask the butler?
Yes. On arrival, the butler briefly goes through the day's programme and the butler's role in the Manor. During a shoot, the photographer's cues take precedence; during a meeting, the butler keeps to a position in the room that does not disturb the conversation.
QHow many people can you receive?
Up to six. If you share the number in advance, including photographers and companions, we will have seating and places for luggage ready.
About using The Studio
- The manor is never let unattended. A butler is present for every booking, and keys are not handed over
- You are welcome to bring your own food and drink. We do not provide meals
- Please use the antique furnishings under the butler's guidance. The armour, hall clock, porcelain and silver are handled by the butler
- Please consult us in advance about loud sound or the use of naked flames
