About Size Guide and Advance Consultation

The size guide sets out the approximate range of height, build and shoe size for which the Apprentice Butler Experience attire is available. Men around 160 to 185 cm, women around 150 to 160 cm, shoes 24.0 to 27.5 cm. As sizes and styles are limited, please be sure to consult us before reserving. Sizes outside these ranges are also welcome to enquire.

Sizes are matched in advance against both measurements and buildA considered fitting
Why consult

Why is a size consultation needed before reserving?

The size guide is the basis on which we prepare, before your visit, the full morning coat you will wear for the Apprentice Butler Experience. With men around 160 to 185 cm, women around 150 to 160 cm and shoes 24.0 to 27.5 cm as a guide, we ask not only your height but also your build and usual clothing size.

At the same height, the fit of the shoulders, chest, sleeves and hem differs from person to person. Rather than settling the outfit on a single figure, considering build and the clothing sizes you usually choose lets you concentrate on posture and gait on the day. For two or more people, please give each person's details separately.

Sizes and styles of attire are limited. Even if you fall outside the guide, do not give up at that point; please consult the butler first. We check the details you provide against the attire at the Manor and reply with what we have confirmed.

Consultation

How does the advance consultation proceed?

In the dining room, five apprentices of all ages in morning coats practise bowing alongside the butler

Gather your size details

Check your height, build, usual clothing size and shoe size. For anything you do not know, simply say so.

Decide your date, time and numbers

Along with the attire check, tell the butler your preferred date and time and the number taking part. For two or more, give each person's sizes separately.

Send it via the dedicated form

Select the Apprentice Butler Experience as your enquiry and send the details you have gathered. Any further concerns about the attire may be written in the same field.

The butler matches the attire

The butler checks your details against the outfits at the Manor. Even if you fall outside the guide, there is no need to judge for yourself before we have checked.

Check the reply and proceed to reserve

Please check the butler's reply. If you have further questions, it is reassuring to raise them in advance rather than leave them until the day.

Fitting points

Which parts are fitted on the day?

ShouldersWe check that the coat's shoulders do not stand away and that moving the arms causes no marked discomfort.
Collar and tieWe check that the collar is not too tight and that the tie sits at the centre front.
CuffsWith the arms hanging naturally, we check the line from shirt to coat to white gloves.
Front button and waistcoatWith the single front button fastened, we check the line of the waistcoat and both front panels.
Tails and trousersWe check that the tails and feet do not hinder you when standing, bowing or walking.
ShoesWe check that your footing is steady and the fit lets you walk the Manor with composure.
On the day

How is the attire fitted when you dress on the day?

The fitting on the day means putting on, in order, the outfit prepared from the details given in advance, while the butler checks the fit both at rest and in motion. We proceed through shirt, trousers, tie, waistcoat, coat, shoes and white gloves, and set the whole before the mirror.

Rather than watching only the front in the mirror, the butler checks the shoulders, back and trailing tails you cannot easily see yourself. We then move on to standing, taking a few steps and bowing, to see that the attire does not hinder your deportment. Please do not endure any discomfort; tell us on the spot.

The size check is not a matter of fitting your body to a single mould. It is a conversation to prepare, within the attire the Manor holds, an outfit in which you can turn to the deportment with composure. We have both male and female butlers, who assist with dressing only as far as needed and only after asking.

QWhat is the height guide for men?
A

Around 160 to 185 cm as a guide. Beyond height, please also tell us your build, usual clothing size and shoe size before reserving. Even within the guide, the fit of each outfit is checked person by person.

QWhat is the height guide for women?
A

Around 150 to 160 cm as a guide. Enquiries outside this range are also welcome, so please add your build and usual clothing size. Rather than judging by the figures alone, please wait for the butler's reply.

QWhat shoe sizes are available?
A

24.0 to 27.5 cm as a guide. If you fall outside this, please still give your usual shoe size before reserving. As footing affects gait and posture, shoes are checked separately from the attire.

QIf I fall outside the guide, can I still take part?
A

Please do not decide for yourself from the guide alone; consult us first. As sizes and styles are limited, the butler checks the details you provide and replies.

QWhat if I do not know my usual clothing size?
A

Give the height, build and shoe size you do know, and note clearly which items you are unsure of. The butler will reply with any further checks needed.

QHow should I write it for two people?
A

Give each person's height, build, usual clothing size and shoe size separately, together with your preferred date, time and numbers. So that details are not confused, add a name or a clear label for each.
