About Laundry
Laundry is a courtesy whereby the butler takes your garments into care during your stay, washes and dries them, and returns them to you. Between business appointments, or on a day spent at length in the Manor, you may leave the tidying of your personal effects entirely to the butler. The Salon is for women only; male companions may not enter, even as an escort.
On arrival, hand your garments to the butler
Laundry at Queen's Butler is a service in which, while you spend time in the Manor, the butler takes your garments into care and, using the building's shared drum washer-dryer, sees them through washing and drying before returning them to you. After receiving your luggage at the door, the butler asks what you would like.
You may request it when you wish to freshen a change of clothes mid-journey on business, or to lighten your belongings during a longer stay. There is no need to keep watch over the laundry itself. While the butler has your garments in care, you may turn your attention to reading, the theatre, conversation or another way of passing the time.
The range of garments we can accept, the detergent, the time required and the finish are confirmed when we hear the details at booking. We never take a treasured garment into care against your better judgement. If you are visiting alone, the timing of handover follows your plans; if two or more of you are visiting, please hand over garments one person at a time so that each item's owner is clear.

Read in the Fireplace Room, write a letter in the Study, enjoy the theatre — spend the time that is the true heart of your visit.
With a shower room and changing space, you can be ready before and after handover
Dressing in the Manor means more than handing over your garments: it is a single sequence of changing, the shower room and your luggage before departure. Queen's Butler The Salon has a private shower room furnished with towels, a hairdryer and amenities.
If you change after arrival and then hand over your garments, please show the butler which items are to be washed. The butler washes and dries them using the building's shared drum washer-dryer. In the meantime, you may enjoy the Study, the Fireplace Room, the theatre or whichever way of passing the time you have chosen within your reserved hours.
Once dried, the butler returns your garments. At collection, please check which items you will wear straight away and which will go into your luggage. If you have an engagement afterwards, tell us at booking your departure time and when you would like your garments back, and we will confirm in advance what can be arranged.

No time is spent waiting; the story of your visit simply continues
Once your garments are in care, the butler shows you to the Fireplace Room. Sink into the wine-red velvet sofa and gaze at the electric flame and the six-light 1920s French chandelier. Even as your garments are washed and dried in the building's shared drum washer-dryer, your time does not pause.
In the Study, a 1980s British mahogany twin-pedestal desk and a black leather captain's chair await. Open a book, write a letter, listen to the butler read aloud. Laundry is a service in which the butler attends to your belongings without intruding on that time.
On an overnight stay, you may move on to the 120-inch theatre or the 19th-century French corbeille bed. Throughout, the butler on duty remains in the Manor; keys are never handed over. Please discuss the timing of collection at booking and again on the day.

We use the Manor's own detergent. If you have a preferred detergent, you are welcome to bring it.

Yes; please discuss it at booking. We confirm what can be arranged around your stay from your 8 pm arrival to your 9 am departure. Please tell us what you will wear the next morning and when you would like your garments back.
